The gaze sweeps over, sweeps across the expanses

of the North, of the South:

The Siberian steppe, the Irish Sea, the Pacific Ocean;

each contains the infinite.
— The gaze clings to nothing,
always already carried off course.

And yet, the expanses of memory – or memories of expanse –
sometimes make something happen – somewhere somehow.
A spectral body emerges from diffuse impressions,
making a difference to all this continuity.
